Transformative project redefines the guest experience with upgraded amenities and Carolina spirit.

A joint venture of Turner Construction Company and D.A. Everett Construction Group, in partnership with Hornets Sports & Entertainment (HSE), the City of Charlotte, and the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, announced the completion of the multi-phase renovation of Spectrum Center, home of the Charlotte Hornets. The comprehensive transformation enhances every aspect of the venue—from concourses to hospitality and back-of-house operations—ensuring the arena remains the premier destination for sports and entertainment in the Carolinas.

The arena reopened this week with a star-studded concert lineup, followed by the Hornets’ 2025–26 home opener.

“The transformed Spectrum Center is a testament to what’s possible when passion, partnership and purpose come together,” said HSE President of Business Operations Shelly Cayette-Weston. “Together with our project partners, we’ve delivered a new world-class arena that will elevate the experience of every fan that walks through its doors. Thank you to the more than 3,000 construction and trade workers for their skills, talent and ability that brought this project to life. As we celebrate Spectrum Center’s milestone 20th anniversary, we also look toward the next 20 years. Spectrum Center will continue to reflect the energy, diversity and spirit of the Carolinas – and be a place where community thrives and memories are made.”

Transforming the Fan Experience
Guided by a focus on accessibility, comfort, and technology, the renovations deliver a seamless experience from entry to exit. Upgrades include frictionless entry systems, expanded food and beverage options reflecting local Carolina flavors, and new gathering spaces throughout the venue. The project also added new premium suites, refreshed concourses, and new family-friendly amenities such as a sensory room and parents’ room.

Key Project Highlights

  • Concourse Improvements: Modernized finishes, new LED signage, upgraded lighting, and enhanced restrooms.
  • New Hospitality Spaces: The Lunazul North District, South District, and Baseline Bar offer open views, chef-driven menus, and full-service bars.
  • Exterior & Wayfinding: Upgraded Trade Street Plaza with a new 50-foot LED display and improved exterior signage.

“This project was all about schedule,” said Drew Kelleher, Vice President and General Manager, Turner Construction Company. “It’s an extraordinary amount of work to complete between the end of the Hornets’ season in April and the start of the next in October. The entire team—our JV partner, trade partners, and craftworkers—worked tirelessly across multiple shifts to deliver every phase safely, on time, and ready for fans to return.”

The Spectrum Center renovation was completed in partnership with Perkins&Will (architect), D.A. Everett (construction partner), CAA ICON (consultant), and Levy (concessions). More than 3,000 skilled workers contributed to the project across two NBA offseasons.
