California Firefighters Memorial Expansion and United Airlines Flight Training Center Building H were recognized for collaboration and design excellence.

Two Turner Construction Company projects earned National Awards of Merit at the 2025 Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Awards: the California Firefighters Memorial Expansion in Sacramento, CA, and the United Airlines Flight Training Center Building H in Denver, CO. Both projects were recognized for their collaboration, innovation, and ability to meet complex demands.

The California Firefighters Memorial Expansion honors the service and sacrifice of the state’s fallen firefighters. Led by the California Fire Foundation, the project expanded the memorial’s capacity, improved accessibility, and enhanced the visitor experience. Working closely with the Foundation and families of the fallen, the Turner team ensured every element reflected respect and remembrance. New bronze relief panels depict key moments in California firefighting history, complemented by digital storytelling features that preserve and share these legacies for future generations.

With demand for pilots rising to support 75 new 737 Max and A321neo aircraft, United Airlines turned to the Turner + BRPH design-build team to deliver a new training facility on an accelerated schedule. Building H provides 157,000 square feet of space housing 12 flight simulators, 12 fixed training devices, classrooms, and support areas. Two simulator bays were completed within 16 months while allowing pilot training to continue without interruption.
